Keith, Operations Executive
In 1986, I came to live at the Home when I was eight years old because my family couldn’t care for me. During my time here, I learned about Jesus Christ and God. The Bible lessons I received gave my life meaning, and I found comfort in His words. I also learned to appreciate the caregivers, their love, and the way they guided me.
The Home gave me a place to stay, provided for my basic needs, and gave me access to education and opportunities to learn life skills. Mdm Leong, the Home’s matron, played a big role in teaching Christian values to all the children. For me, she was more than a matron—she was a mentor I deeply respected.
I made wonderful friendships in the Home. Living, playing, studying, eating, and praying together with other children created bonds that I still treasure. My time here shaped my character and positively influenced my outlook and lifestyle.
Over the years, I’ve worked as a car mechanic, in the printing industry, and as a delivery person for a courier service.
Later, I was given the chance to work at CSLMCH. It felt like a blessing to be able to give back to the Home that had given me so much love and support.
Today, the children here are fortunate to have the support of volunteers, churches, donors, and social workers. They also have role models, opportunities for enrichment classes, and a strong support system to help them grow.
Even though the Home has changed over the years, its mission, as set out by Dr Chen Su Lan in 1968, remains the same. I believe the children here will take these values with them and lead meaningful lives when they leave.
Thank you to all the staff, social workers, and house parents for continuing to give care, guidance, and love to the children at Chen Su Lan Methodist Children’s Home.
