Chen Su Lan Methodist Children’s Home (CSLMCH) operates a Youth Centre which caters to both residential and non-residential youth. Its operating hours are Mondays to Fridays, from 9am to 6pm. The Youth Centre provides good supervision and care to our youth aged 13 to 16.. The goals of the Centre are to encourage the youth to be more independent and be equipped with self-care and social skills, and self-confidence. This is achieved through the adoption of Christian teachings and creative ways to effectively work with our youth. In 2008, a total of 15 youth were placed in the Youth Centre.

The Centre provides a structured programme which includes supervised studies and group activities. Youths are encouraged to participate in games, reading, cultivating social skills through sharing, and in activities that support independence. Some of the interesting highlights in 2008 include, team building activities, a tea party and a barbeque fiesta which was solely organised by the youth. Volunteers from various tertiary institutions, polytechnics, junior colleges and churches offered tuition and they also organise adventure activities and other social events for them.

Adolescence is often a time of turmoil and stress. Therefore, counselling the youth focused on social, emotional, educational, health-related issues and other developmental concerns. Through effective counselling, youth are guided to overcome the many challenges they faced in their lives. It is important to give the youth an opportunity to face up to these challenges and accept the responsibility for the decisions they make in their lives too.

For the year 2008, 66.8% of our youth achieved 90% improvement in their academic performance and 85.6% of our youth passed their examinations. We reached our 100% target in ensuring that all our youths attend at least one enrichment programme.
